Arocena, Ricardo
Born in Montevideo (Uruguay) on July 10, 1955.
From 1969 to 1974 he took classes in Edgardo Ribeiro's workshop and at the same time he studied at the National School of Fine Arts (EMBA - UDELAR), in Montevideo (Uruguay). In 1974 he entered the Taller Graciela Ruiz until 1977. Through the Workshop she is linked to painters such as Juan Storm, Augusto Torres and Francisco Matto, among others.
He has advanced studies in history (Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación) and has a degree in Library Science. He worked in the Communication Sciences Department (UDELAR), was a member of the Equipo Scielo Uruguay (electronic library of Uruguayan scientific journals) and in the Faculty of Medicine. He is the author of "Crónicas de la Patria Vieja", a virtual book published in different historical and cultural portals.
Most outstanding exhibitions:
1971- Collective exhibition of the Ribeiro Workshop in the Municipal Subway (Montevideo, Uruguay).
1974- Individual exhibition at the Residents' House in Lavalleja (Montevideo, Uruguay).
1974- Círculo y Cuadrado Bookstore (Montevideo, Uruguay).
1975- Permanent exhibition at the offices of Oscar and Victor Caccia Construction Companies (Montevideo, Uruguay). (Paysandú, Uruguay)
1975- Shared workshop with the artist Manuel Chouza Cabrera
In addition to his work as a visual artist, he worked as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator, working for the following publishing houses: Comunicación Gráfica (1990-1995), Taller de Publicaciones (1995-2005) and Caracol al Galope (1995...).
Within this area he designed the following books:

-The value of a dead cat (Fernando Agorrodi)
-The hammock chair (José Camarda)

He also worked as a journalist for the following media: "Colección popular", "Semanario 20/21" (Information between two centuries), Director of the cultural magazine "PARQUE BATLLE/ NOTICIAS" (from 1992 to 2000), collaborator of the cultural website "El Montevideano/Laboratorio de artes".
Since 2015 he has been exhibiting his works exclusively at Galería Portón de San Pedro (Montevideo, Uruguay).
