Studer, Edwin
Born in Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1924, from swiss parents. Painter, teaching and muralist.
Since the end of 1946 was a Joaquín Torres García disciple and member of Torres García's School until 1956. He did several study travels to Paris, Madrid and New York in 1980, 1987, 1992, 1997, 1998.
His vast muralist works have arround a hundred of importantan realized works in several materials in Uruguay and Argentina.
Wons several times at Mural Art Contest in Montevideo (Uruguay), Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Brasilia (Brazil).
His pictorial activity, practice as well teaching, include numerous individual exhibitions in his country and abroad.
Between his most important exhibitions can point out: “Amigos del Arte” (Uruguay), Asociación de Escribanos del Uruguay, San Pablo Biennial (Brazil) and Architecture Faculty of Montevideo (Uruguay).

Aumenta y enriquece nuestro patrimonio cultural
Es importante destacar que en Tacuarembó, hay ciudadanos que a pesar de sus múltiples actividades, siempre están atentos a preservar el patrimonio cultural en beneficio del Departamento y sus habitantes. El señor Gustavo Gómez, gerente de CRÉDIT URUGUAY Banco, al tener conocimiento de las reformas edilicias que se efectuarían en la sucursal de Tacuarembó, se preocupó por preservar el valioso mural que existe en el edificio. Mural creado en el año 1964 por escultor Edwin Studer, alumno del Taller Torres García. Fue así que se comunicó, inmediatamente con a la Comisión de Patrimonio Cultural de Tacuarembó, para informar del incierto destino que tendría el mural en poquísimos días. Ya que estábamos en la fecha del 16 de setiembre, y el 21 del mismo mes comenzarían las reformas en dicho local. Con la premura del caso, La comisión envió una nota a las autoridades de dicho Banco, para formalizar la donación y extracción del mural. Creo que se hizo una gestión muy acertada para que esta obra permaneciera en el departamento, ya que su creación fue inspirada en la economía, e idiosincrasia de nuestros pobladores. Cada vez con más frecuencia, estas acciones se estarán dando ya que, la mejor custodia para nuestro Patrimonio Cultural, es la gente que lo conoce, lo valora y convive con él. Gracias Gustavo, es indudable que muchos seguirán tu ejemplo, ha quedando demostrado que ya no existe indiferencia por El Patrimonio Cultural que es nuestro, nos pertenece a todos, afianza nuestras raíces, nos identifica y compromete con nuestras cosas. Quisiera destacar la inmediata respuesta de la Intendencia Municipal de Tacuarembó, que a solicitud de La comisión De Patrimonio Cultural del Departamento, ha proporcionando las herramientas y el personal idóneo para hacer posible el traslado del mural a un lugar seguro y accesible para todos los tacuaremboenses y sus visitantes. Es ésta una manifestación del cambio de actitud que estamos teniendo los uruguayos, demostrando que cuando el trabajo es realizado en grupo, colaborando cada uno en lo suyo, las cosas salen bien y a tiempo para cumplir con la urgencia que cada caso requiere. |
